New Aadhaar App brings face ID Verification to end photocopies or card hassle

Aadhaar card users don't need to worry about taking photocopies every time during verification. The new app has enabled face ID verification.

One of the main goals of this update is to eliminate the need for physical Aadhaar cards and photocopies. Now, instead of handing over a printed copy at hotels, shops, or airports, you can just use the app to verify your identity securely. Launched by the Ministry of Electronics and IT, this Aadhaar app upgrade is being seen as an important step in India’s digital journey. This promises to make identity checks more convenient and secure.

If you’ve ever struggled through your bag looking for a photocopy of your Aadhaar card or stood in line waiting to get one, then know there’s good news. The government has launched a new version of the Aadhaar mobile app that lets you verify your identity using just your face. That means no card, no photocopy, just your smartphone and your face can work.

What’s New in the App?

This has been shared by IT minister Ashwini Vaishnaw while taking it to the X. “Aadhaar App ensures Stronger privacy, No more misuse or leaks of Aadhaar data, and Protection against forgery or editing (like photoshopping your Aadhaar,” he mentioned.

The big update in this version of the Aadhaar app is Face ID-based authentication. This means your face becomes your Aadhaar login and verification key. Whether you’re opening a bank account, getting a new SIM card, or accessing government services, a quick selfie will now do the job.

Gone are the days of OTPs, fingerprints, or carrying a hard copy of your Aadhaar everywhere. The app now acts as a digital ID that you can use on the go.

New Aadhaar App: How it works

Using the new feature is simple. Just follow these steps:

First of all, you need to download or update the Aadhaar app from the app store.

Once downloaded, open the app and go through a one-time registration process.

The app will use your front camera to take a live selfie.

This will help you to match your face with your Aadhaar data to confirm your identity.

Behind the scenes, the app uses encrypted technology to keep your information safe. And for those concerned about misuse, the system is designed so your Aadhaar data can’t be forged or tampered with. However, it must be noted that the app is still in beta testing phase.
