NZ vs PAK: Six IPL-Bound Players Including Santner To Miss T20Is; Bracewell Named Captain For Pakistan T20Is

New Zealand all-rounder Michael Bracewell will lead the team against Pakistan in the absence of regular captain Mitchell Santner.

Hyderabad:

IPL 2025 will be played between March 22 and April 25, spanning almost two months. Conway and Rachin will be featuring for Chennai Super Kings, Lockie Ferguson for Punjab Kings, and Glenn Phillips for Gujarat Titans, while Bevon Jacobs will be playing for Mumbai Indians.

New Zealand have announced a 15-member squad for the five-match series against Pakistan, and Michael Bracewell will captain the team. The Kiwi all-rounder led the New Zealand side on the tour of Pakistan last year when the series ended in a 2-2 conclusion. Bracewell will be at the helm in the absence of the regular skipper, Mitchell Santner. Four other players - Devon Conway, Lockie Ferguson, Glenn Phillips, Rachin Ravindra and Bevon Jacobs will also be in India for the IPL commitment.

Bracewell recently played a key role for the New Zealand team in the Champions Trophy campaign, where the team finished as runner-up. He picked a four-wicket haul against Bangladesh and also scored a fifty in the final against India at the Dubai International Stadium.

“It’s a great honour and a real privilege to captain your country. I really enjoyed leading the side in Pakistan last year, and we’ve got many players from that squad included for this series as well, which is nice,” Bracewell said in a New Zealand Cricket press release.

The selectors have kept in mind the workload of the pacers and have included Kyle Jamieson and Will O’Rourke only for the first three matches of the series. Matt Henry will be back in the team for the fourth and fifth T20I of the series.

Ben Sears has recovered from the hamstring injury, while leg spinner Ish Sodhi has returned to the fold after missing the series against Sri Lanka. Star New Zealand batter Kane Williamson has made himself unavailable and hasn’t been considered for selection.

The T20I series between Pakistan and New Zealand kicks off on Sunday with the series opener to be played at the Hagley Oval in Christchurch.

New Zealand squad for Pakistan T20I series:

Michael Bracewell, Mark Chapman, Finn Allen, Jacob Duffy, Zak Foulkes (games 4 & 5), Mitch Hay, Matt Henry (games 4 & 5), Kyle Jamieson (games 1, 2 & 3), Daryl Mitchell, Jimmy Neesham, Will O’Rourke (games 1, 2 & 3), Tim Robinson, Ben Sears, Tim Seifert, Ish Sodhi
