IPL 2025: Mayank Yadav sustains new toe injury during rehab, comeback for LSG delayed

Mayank Yadav was on the road to recovery after being out of action for quite some time now but has recently suffered an injury to his toe which delays his participation for LSG in the IPL 2025.

New Delhi:

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) fast bowler Mayank Yadav’s recovery process has taken a new hit as he has suffered a new toe injury. He suffered the setback at a time when the Indian Premier League (IPL) kicked-off and he was expecting making a return in the second half of the tournament. The pacer was recovering from a back injury and as per reports, would have joined LSG in April.

“Mayank, who everyone was very excited about last year, was going quite well, and he kicked his toe on the bed. He got an infection in his toe. It’s put his rehab back about a week or two weeks,” Langer informed but also said that he is up and running and that they continuously see videos of him bowling.

The former Australian cricketer added that he is hoping Mayank to join them by the back end of the tournament.

Mayank and injuries:

But Langer was assured that after some time, these bowlers will be back with the squad to take part in the remainder of the tournament. Yadav, who hails from Delhi, was signed by LSG last year and has been plagued by injuries ever since he clocked 150 kmph and won Player of the Match awards in his first two IPL outings in 2024.

On the eve of their opener in Visakhapatnam, Langer said the management is very much aware of the fact that they are going through a fast bowling problem due to unavailability of these players.

“We’ve all been in the business long enough to know that the fast bowling injuries are something that you always have to prepare for. You never hope for it, you never wish for it but you prepare for it,” ESPNcricinfo quoted Langer as saying.

LSG head coach Justin Langer said that he is hopeful of Yadav joining the team at the “back end” of IPL 2025. The team is heading into their season opener against Delhi Capitals (DC) without their first-choice Indian pacers, namely Yadav, Mohsin Khan, Avesh Khan, and Akash Deep, who are all down with different degrees of injuries.
