Liverpool FC agree record-breaking British deal to sign Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen

Premier League champions Liverpool FC are set to make a big statement in the transfer market and have ‘verbally agreed’ a deal with Bayer Leverkusen to sign Florian Wirtz.

New Delhi:

Germany’s Florian Writz is set to become a Liverpool player after a deal has been agreed with Bayer Leverkusen. Despite interest from other clubs, the Reds won the race after accepting a huge asking price for Germany’s rising talent.

Liverpool investing heavily in Arne Slot Project

Liverpool FC gave just one signing to Arne Slot when he arrived at the club last summer. It seemed like this was just to avoid any rash decisions as the Reds entered a period of instability after Jurgen Klopp left.

Spending big money on players to suit Slot’s system could have backfired quickly, but after winning their second Premier League title, the club has decided to invest heavily. The management is expecting many more trophies from Slot in coming seasons. As per reports, Liverpool is also pursuing a deal for Bournemouth left-back Milos Kerkez.

It is expected that Wirtz will now head to Merseyside to complete his medical and media duties, with personal terms between the player and club having been agreed two weeks ago. He is set to become the club’s second major signing of the summer and will be reunited with Jeremie Frimpong, whose transfer was confirmed last month.

As per Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool and Leverkusen have verbally agreed on a deal in principle for a package reaching €150 million after two failed offers. Leverkusen rejected the first bid for the German star, but Liverpool increased their second offer worth a total of £113m.

That bid was rejected again as it fell below the German club’s asking price of £126m (€150m). However, both clubs have now verbally agreed deal in principle. This is set to be a record-breaking deal for the current Premier League champions, surpassing the amount they paid to sign Darwin Nunez from Benfica and becomes the most expensive signing in British football.
