Lighter, cheaper headset may launch this year
Apple is reportedly preparing to launch a lighter, cheaper Vision Air headset by late 2025 or early 2026. The new model aims to fix the Vision Pro’s biggest issues—weight and cost, while trying to reach a broader market.
Apple pushes forward with plans to introduce the Vision Air because of weak reception toward the Vision Pro, primarily stemming from its high price and heavy weight. The forthcoming device aims to improve major problems identified in the initial headset model while resuming the product category for wider market adoption. The future of the Vision Pro headset remains unknown since it is unclear if Apple plans to replace it with the Vision Air or position the two headsets as different market segments.
Apple continues its mixed-reality device expansion with the Vision Air, which promises affordability and lightness to its upcoming product line. Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman revealed through his recent report that Apple is creating two versions of their Vision Pro: a tethered version built for high performance and a standalone version designed for casual users. The standalone version is expected to reach the market in late 2025 or early 2026.
Fixing the flaws: Weight and price
The main challenge for Apple might involve creating a use case that actually captures the interest of consumers. A well-known online post highlights that prior Apple products, including the iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch, provided clear benefits immediately after launch. The mainstream audience does not recognise daily value in the Vision Pro because consumers view it primarily as an interesting device rather than an essential one.
Apple actively addresses the main issues of the Vision Pro by minimising its size and reducing its price from $3,500. The Vision Air promises both weight reduction and enhanced comfort that should increase extended usage duration in augmented and virtual reality environments for mainstream consumers. A lower price point would enable the device to reach many more customers who had previously found the original device out of reach financially.
Will Vision Air sacrifice premium features to cut costs?
The upcoming fall release of visionOS 3 alongside the Vision Air musters attention about what Apple plans to preserve and eliminate from its final product. To lower the price, the Vision Air will receive reduced EyeSight functionality, scaled-down ultra-clear displays and advanced sensors. The Vision product may reach its original promise by keeping a premium user experience along with removing nonessential hardware components.
According to current predictions, Apple will create a significant year for its “Air” product lineup in 2025 through new MacBook Air and iPad Air devices and potentially an iPhone 17 Air model.
