Kangana Ranaut urges West Bengal Police to release content creator Sharmistha Panoli after she apologised for her remarks against Pakistan

Her arrest has sparked a political controversy, with the BJP and its allies accusing the West Bengal government, under Mamata Banerjee, of hypocrisy. The FIR lodged in Kolkata against Panoli references multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including those related to inciting enmity on religious grounds, intentional acts meant to offend religious sentiments, and deliberate provocation likely to disturb the peace. She appeared in court and was placed in judicial custody for 14 days.
Shamistha Panoli, a law student, was taken into custody by the Kolkata Police for posting videos in which she purportedly used offensive and communally inflammatory language. In the clips that have since been removed, she criticized Bollywood stars for their silence regarding “Operation Sindoor,” India’s response following the Pahalgam terror attack in Kashmir that resulted in 26 fatalities.
Kangana Ranaut backs Shamistha Panoli
Speaking to news agency ANI, actress Kangana Ranaut supported today came out to support the content creator currently under fire for her controversies comments and urged West Bengal Police to leave her. She said, ”On the arrest of Sharmistha Panoli from Gurugram by Kolkata Police for allegedly hurting religious sentiments through her comments on social media, actor Kangana Ranaut says, “Harassing someone in the name of law and order is not good. When someone has apologised and deleted the post, but putting her in prison, torturing her, ending her career, and raising questions on her character is very wrong.
This should not happen with any daughter. I urge the West Bengal government not to try to make the state into North Korea. Everyone has democratic rights. She has apologised for her indecent remarks. She had said everything in general, and today’s generation uses such language very normally, both in English and in Hindi. She should be released soon because she is a very young woman. She has her whole career and life ahead of her…”
