Hyderabad Metro train halts for 20 mins due to technical snag

The Hyderabad Metro staff managed to fix the issue, and train services were started again. But officials from the Metro have not yet released a full statement explaining the exact reason behind the problem.

Hyderabad:

This unexpected stop caused a lot of trouble for people traveling, especially during the busy morning hours. Passengers were seen waiting inside the train, while others were standing on the platform, unsure of what was going on or how long the wait would be.

A metro train running on the busy Miyapur to LB Nagar line in Hyderabad suddenly stopped working on Thursday, May 1. The issue happened because of a technical fault, which caused the train to be stuck at Bharat Nagar station for more than 20 minutes, reports said.

Later, Metro staff managed to fix the issue, and train services were started again. But officials from the Metro have not yet released a full statement explaining the exact reason behind the problem.

Hyderabad metro faces loses worth Rs 625 crore in 2024-25

Earlier, Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited (HMRL) shared that it had suffered a loss of ₹625 crore during the financial year 2024-25. Local reports mention that in the first three months of 2025, the Metro service saw a loss of about ₹5.55 crore.

During this time, HMRL also had to repay large loans taken for different projects. These combined issues led to huge losses. Out of the total losses, about ₹4,828.55 crore came during and after the pandemic period.

Since the Metro service began in 2017, the company has seen total losses adding up to ₹6,598.21 crore. The Metro was quite popular when it first started. But things changed when COVID-19 hit in 2020 and 2021. Because of the pandemic, fewer people used the Metro, and it took about two years for the number of passengers to return to normal.

Hyderabad Metro tries to earn extra via ads

To deal with the situation, HMRL began to use its properties and other resources to earn extra income, which helped reduce the financial losses in the past two years. So far, the company has managed to make around ₹1,400 crore by selling tickets and through advertising inside Metro stations and trains. But the high interest on the money borrowed by the company still remains a big challenge, and is one of the main reasons why the losses are still so high.
