GT expect Shubnam Gill to be fit for SRH game,

GT skipper Shubman Gill is suffering from back spasms and didn't field during their match against Rajasthan Royals on April 28 and had to be subbed with seamer Ishant Sharma.

New Delhi:

Shubman Gill is fighting to be available to lead Gujarat Titans in their IPL 2025 game against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Thursday. His fitness will be assessed at pre-match nets after which the team management will take a call on his availability.

Solanki pointed out that Suryavanshi’s effort shows age is no bar to perform at the highest level.

“He was quite phenomenal against us. But I don’t think you can decide an appropriate age, there’s no perfect age. If somebody is ready to play at a certain level, I think they should be allowed the opportunity and exposure to be able to do so.

“Credit to Rajasthan Royals for spotting that talent and then giving that talent the opportunity,” he added.

“Firstly, I don’t think the team has been decimated or anything of the sort. We mustn’t take any credit away from that young man. He played quite brilliantly,” he said.

“Of course, we could have done things differently. We could have bowled in a slightly more controlling manner, we could have sort of shut him down perhaps.”

Rashid Khan took over the captaincy duties as 14-year-old slammed the youngest century in tournament history to take Rajasthan to victory.

“His fitness, there was a bit of a back spasm. We’re just trying to be careful with it. He’ll be at training today. We’ll just see where he’s at. We’re reasonably confident that he’s going to be OK,” said GT’s director of cricket Vikram Solanki.

The former England batter said the battering they took in Suryavanshi’s 35-ball 100 hasn’t dented their confidence though he felt they could have planned better against the teenager.

The top-order batter is suffering from back spasms and didn’t field during their match against Rajasthan Royals on April 28 and had to be subbed with seamer Ishant Sharma.
