India is rich in cultural diversity and traditions. In every state there are different types of rituals that are followed during every festivals. Every month there are festivals that take place. In this article, let us find out the festivals that will be observed during the month of May 2025.

May Vrat and Festivals 2025: Key Hindu Observances in This Auspicious Month:

The month of May 2025 starts with Vaishakh Shukla Chaturthi and ends with Jyeshtha Shukla Panchami. Interestingly, this month begins and concludes with the observance of Vinayak Chaturthi Vrat, making it spiritually significant from start to finish.

May 3: Ganga Saptami:

Devotees will observe Ganga Saptami on May 3, celebrating the rebirth of the holy river Ganga. The Saptami Tithi begins at 7:51 AM on May 3 and ends at 7:18 AM on May 4. As the Udaya Tithi (prevailing at sunrise) is considered for observance, the festival will fall on May 3 this year.

May 5: Sita Navami (Sita Jayanti):

Vaishakh Shukla Navami marks the birth of Goddess Sita. This year, Sita Navami will be celebrated on May 5. Married women observe a fast on this day, praying for their husbands’ longevity and well-being.

May 8: Mohini Ekadashi:

Celebrated on Vaishakh Shukla Ekadashi, Mohini Ekadashi will be observed on May 8. The tithi starts at 10:19 AM on May 7 and ends at 12:29 PM on May 8. According to Hindu mythology, Lord Vishnu assumed the form of Mohini on this day to distribute amrit during the Samudra Manthan.

May 11: Narasimha Jayanti:

Vaishakh Shukla Chaturdashi marks the appearance of Lord Narasimha, the fierce avatar of Lord Vishnu. The puja muhurat on May 11 is between 4:21 PM and 7:03 PM. Fasting devotees can break their fast on May 12 before sunrise, starting from 5:32 AM.

May 12: Vaishakh Purnima & Buddha Purnima:

Vaishakh Purnima, falling on May 12, is observed as Buddha Purnima, celebrating Lord Buddha’s birth. The full moon tithi begins at 8:01 PM on May 11 and ends at 10:25 PM on May 12. Kurma Jayanti, commemorating Lord Vishnu’s second avatar, is also celebrated on this day. The moonrise will be visible at 6:57 PM.

May 13: Narada Jayanti:

Observed on Jyeshtha Krishna Pratipada, Narada Jayanti will fall on May 13 this year. This day honours Devarshi Narada, a celestial sage and devotee of Lord Vishnu, known for spreading divine knowledge.

May 16: Ekadanta Sankashti Chaturthi:

This auspicious fast dedicated to Lord Ganesha is observed on the Krishna Chaturthi of Vaishakh. The tithi begins at 4:02 AM on May 16 and ends at 5:13 AM on May 17. Hence, the fast will be kept on May 16.

May 23: Apara Ekadashi:

Apara Ekadashi, which falls on Jyeshtha Krishna Ekadashi, will be observed on May 23. Devotees can break their fast on May 24 between 5:26 AM and 8:11 AM during the Dwadashi tithi.

May 24: Shani Pradosh Vrat:

This Pradosh Vrat coincides with a Saturday, making it Shani Pradosh. The fast is observed during the Trayodashi tithi of Jyeshtha Krishna Paksha. The auspicious time for worship falls between 7:20 PM and 9:13 PM.

May 26: Shani Jayanti & Vat Savitri Amavasya:

Shani Jayanti, the birth anniversary of Lord Shani (Saturn), will be observed on May 26. On the same day, Jyeshtha Amavasya, also known as Vat Savitri Amavasya, begins at 12:11 PM and ends on May 27 at 8:31 AM.

Rituals for ancestral peace and prosperity are performed during this time. On May 27, Bhomvati Amavasya, a day considered auspicious for charity and holy dips, will also be observed.
