Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri to brief Parliamentary panel

Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri will brief Parliament’s External Affairs Committee, led by Shashi Tharoor, on Operation Sindoor and India-Pakistan tensions following the Pahalgam attack. He will outline diplomatic, military, and regional implications, alongside India’s recalibrated foreign policy and global outreach.

New Delhi:

The armed forces on May 7 carried out precise strikes on terror infrastructures in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir under Operation Sindoor. This was carried out in response to April 22 terror attacks on civilians in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam.

Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri will on Monday appear before the Parliamentary Standing Committee on External Affairs and brief the panel on Operation Sindoor and its diplomatic, military, and regional implications. The committee is headed by Congress MP Shashi Tharoor.

To cover a broad range of topics

The operation led to days of military confrontation between India and Pakistan before both sides reached an understanding to cease hostilities on May 10.

Misri’s is expected to cover a broad range of topics before the panel, including the current state of diplomatic relation with Islamabad and emerging cross-border security challenges. According to reports, the briefing will further offer insight into the twin-track approach by the government.

Fragile state of India-Pakistan relations

Meanwhile, the Centre has announced the dispatch of all-party delegations to 33 global capitals to engage with foreign leaders and stakeholders to communicate India’s firm resolve to counter terrorism and its commitment to peace and stability.

The briefing is more significant given the fragile state of India-Pakistan relations and growing global scrutiny on South Asian security dynamics. Misri has previously briefed Parliament on other developments, including ties with Bangladesh and Canada.
