ED issues notices to Tollywood actor Mahesh Babu

Mahesh Babu is not being investigated as an accused in the case and may not be linked to the fraud.

The ED has issued notices to him in connection with Sai Surya Developers and Surana Project cases, for alleged money laundering and real estate fraud. He has been asked to appear to record his statement under Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).

The actor is not being investigated as an accused in the case and may not be linked to the fraud. He will likely be questioned about his remuneration for endorsing the real estate projects, reports said.

The agency is trying to understand transactions worth Rs 5.9 crore that the actor received for endorsing the realty projects in cash and via cheques.

The realty company proprietors allegedly scammed gullible investors out of their hard eared money in the name of advance for sale of plots for astronomical amounts, according to Telangana police complaint. The ED case stems from the complaint.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has issued notices to popular Telugu film actor Mahesh Babu and asked him to appear for questioning on April 27.

The accused engineered sale of same plots to different people, accepting money without proper agreements, falsely assuring customers of plot registrations and fraudulent schemes that involved unauthorized land layouts. The accused caused financial losses to several investors, the agency said.

Incriminating documents related to the investors’ deposits and unaccounted cash transactions were seized during the raids, the agency said.

Unaccounted cash worth Rs 75 lakh has been seized from the premises of Narendra Surana and Surana group of companies, ED said.
