Drone activity witnessed along Internal Border

Drone activity was reported late Monday along the International Border in districts of Jammu and Punjab. Security forces engaged suspected drones in Samba district, Jammu, and a drone was reportedly neutralised near Mand village, Jalandhar, Punjab. Precautionary blackouts were implemented in some areas.

New Delhi:

Nonetheless, the army officials said the situation was under control and there was no sign of the enemy drones by Monday. This was after security forces engaged with the suspected drones in Samba district, according to the army.

Drone activity was seen for a few hours late on Monday along the International Border in districts of Jammu and Punjab. It was observed in Jammu’s Samba district and Punjab’s Jalandhar district.

The drone activity along the border came hours after Prime Minister Narendra Modi made his first address to the nation to speak about the Operation Sindoor other than the meeting of the director general of military operations (DGMOs) of India and Pakistan.

The army assured that it wasn’t an alarming situation.

“A small number of suspected drones have been observed near Samba in Jammu and Kashmir. They are being engaged,” the army said, as reported by news agency PTI.

“I have been informed that one surveillance drone was brought down by the armed forces around 9:20 pm near Mand village,” said Deputy Commissioner (Jalandhar) Himanshu Aggarwal.

“An expert team is looking for the debris,” he added.

More than an hour later, the DC (Jalandhar) asked people to avoid proximity to any debris, and instead they should inform the nearest police station.

He also mentioned about switching off the lights around Suranassi was a precautionary step taken other than refraining people from bursting firecrackers. He said there weren’t complete blackouts and said it wasn’t a thing to worry, citing the confirmation of the armed forces.

Apart from Samba, Kathua, Rajouri and Jammu observed blackouts. The lights went off at the cave shrine of Mata Vaishno Devi as a precausionary step, as per sources cited by PTI.

In Punjab’s Jalandhar district, a senior official stated that the armed forces neutralised a suspected surveillance drone.
