Developed in Bengaluru, SkyStriker suicide drones

Bengaluru:

The drones were built by Alpha Design Technologies, a Bengaluru-based company that works with Israeli defence firm Elbit Systems. Adani Defence also owns a part of Alpha Design Technologies. Colonel (Retd) H S Shankar, who leads Alpha Design, told The Indian Express that he was asked by the Defence Ministry not to share details with the media.

During India’s recent Operation Sindoor, suicide drones called SkyStriker played an important role in targeting and destroying terrorist bases in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. These drones were made in Bengaluru. Sources in Delhi confirmed that these advanced drones were used in the mission.

The SkyStriker was first designed by Elbit Systems in Israel. It is a drone that can quietly and accurately attack targets from a distance. It can carry explosives weighing up to 10 kilograms and is designed for high-precision strikes in tough battle situations. Elbit describes it as a silent and effective tool that helps soldiers carry out surprise attacks and improve their chances of survival on the battlefield.

Colonel Shankar previously worked at Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) and was involved in the early development of electronic voting machines. Back in 2021, the Indian Army ordered 100 SkyStriker drones. They were also displayed during that year’s Aero India event. The exact number of drones used in this mission has not been shared publicly.

About Operation Sindoor

On May 7, the Indian Armed Forces launched ‘Operation Sindoor’, hitting terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir from where terrorist attacks against India were planned and directed. Altogether, nine (9) sites were targeted. The Indian Army said that its actions were ‘focused, measured and non-escalatory in nature’ and no Pakistani military facilities were targeted in the attack.
