Delhi Airport cancelled following tragic Air India plane crash

An Air India Boeing 787 crash near Ahmedabad led to major flight disruptions between Delhi Terminal 1 and Ahmedabad. Multiple airlines, including IndiGo and Akasa Air, cancelled services. Ahmedabad airport shut temporarily. Airlines issued advisories, refunds, and rebooking support.

New Delhi:

IndiGo cancelled three scheduled flights to Ahmedabad, while Akasa Air suspended two. Japan Airlines and Qantas each cancelled one flight on the route, as the aviation sector responded to the sudden closure of Ahmedabad’s runway.

Flight operations between Delhi’s Terminal 1 and Ahmedabad faced significant disruption on Thursday following the crash of Air India Flight AI171 near Ahmedabad. In the aftermath of the tragedy, the Ahmedabad airport has been temporarily shut, prompting the cancellation of multiple flights and the introduction of heightened security protocols at departure terminals.

Air India flight travelling to London crashes in Ahmedabad

In light of the incident, airlines have begun issuing travel advisories and rolling out passenger support initiatives. IndiGo has announced full refunds, flexible rebooking options, and dedicated assistance for affected customers. Other carriers are offering similar concessions to help mitigate travel disruptions.

The cancellations were triggered by the fatal crash of an Air India Boeing 787 Dreamliner, which was flying from Ahmedabad to London Gatwick. The aircraft, carrying 242 passengers and crew, crashed shortly after take-off in the Meghaninagar area of the city. Emergency services rushed to the scene, and flight operations at the airport were halted indefinitely.

Advisory for passengers

Travellers have been advised to confirm their flight status before heading to the airport and to stay in contact with their respective airlines for updates. Airport personnel and airline staff are stationed across terminals to provide guidance and assistance to passengers caught in the chaos.

The crash has cast a pall over the country’s aviation sector. A formal investigation is currently underway to determine the cause of the accident, with aviation authorities committed to conducting a thorough and transparent inquiry.
