Complain online & get roads repaired in under 48 hrs with BMC’s new app
Mumbai’s BMC has launched the “Pothole QuickFix” app and WhatsApp chatbot, enabling citizens to report potholes with photos and locations. The initiative ensures repairs within 48 hours, promoting transparency, accountability, and easier public participation in tackling the city’s road issues..
Mumbai:
Launched on June 9, 2025, under the Smart Mumbai campaign, the BMC’s latest tool is a mobile application called ‘Pothole QuickFix.’ The app allows residents to report potholes in a few simple steps: users can upload a photo, mark the location, describe the issue, and submit the complaint, all in under a minute. Once submitted, the report is directed to the appropriate department for swift action.
As the monsoon rains sweep through Mumbai once again, the city is facing its perennial problem, roads scarred with potholes that not only hinder daily commutes but also pose serious safety risks. In a fresh bid to address this long-standing issue, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has rolled out a digital initiative aimed at speeding up road repairs and improving public accountability.
48 hour deadline to address pothole related complaints
Upon completion of the repair, users can rate the quality of the work or reopen the complaint if they are not satisfied.
In a move towards greater transparency, the civic body has set a 48-hour deadline for addressing each reported pothole. If the complaint remains unresolved beyond this timeframe, it is automatically escalated to higher authorities. Citizens can track their complaint’s progress in real-time through the app and will receive updates via SMS until the issue is resolved.
Services also available on WhatsApp
The city’s potholes have long been a source of frustration for motorists and pedestrians alike, with past attempts at resolution often falling short. This year, however, the civic body’s approach reflects a significant shift, one that puts residents at the centre of the solution while leveraging technology to enhance responsiveness.
To ensure wider accessibility, especially for those hesitant to download another app, the BMC has also introduced a WhatsApp chatbot service on 8999228999. Residents can report issues simply by sending a keyword such as “Pothole” or “PT” in English, or “खड्डय” (khaddaya) in Marathi. This feature offers a more inclusive way for people to engage with the initiative.
