Chinnaswamy stampede row: Bengaluru top cop suspended, Seemant Kumar Singh
Following a tragic stampede near Bengaluru's Chinnaswamy Stadium leaving 11 dead and dozens injured, the Karnataka government removed Police Commissioner B Dayananda. Seemanth Kumar Singh replaced him. Several police officials were suspended, and arrests were made, including those from RCB and DNA Entertainment.

He was previously serving as Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) with the Bengaluru Metropolitan Task Force and will now hold both roles until further notice. The move came after public anger and political pressure mounted over the handling of a crowded public event that ended in chaos.
 In a major late-night reshuffle, the Karnataka government has removed Bengaluru Police Commissioner B Dayananda following a tragic stampede near Chinnaswamy Stadium that left 11 people dead and more than 50 injured. Seemant Kumar Singh, a senior IPS officer from the 1996 batch, has been appointed as the new Commissioner of Police.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah ordered quick action, suspending several top police officials accused of failing to manage the situation properly. Those suspended include Cubbon Park Circle Inspector A K Girish, ACP C Balakrishna, Central DCP Shekhar H Tekkannavar, and Additional Commissioner Vikash Kumar Vikash, who was responsible for stadium security.
RCB marketing head, DNA Entertainments staff members arrested
The government also ordered the arrest of key organisers involved in the event. This includes representatives of Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), the event firm DNA Entertainment, and the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA). They face serious charges, including culpable homicide not amounting to murder.
Notably, RCB’s marketing head Nikhil Sosale and three staff members of DNA Entertainments have been arrested.
Opposition asks for Chief Minister, Dy Chief Minister’s resignation
As calls for accountability grew louder, especially from opposition parties like the BJP, who demanded the resignation of both the Chief Minister and his deputy, the government announced a judicial inquiry. Retired High Court judge Justice Michael D’Cunha will lead the investigation and is expected to submit a detailed report within 30 days.
Officials have said strong steps are being taken to ensure those responsible are held to account. The tragic stampede has raised urgent questions about public safety and event planning in the city.
