Kolkata:Â
Despite the mushrooming of ATMs and popularity of online and digital banking, many have to visit branches of different banks for getting some work done. Therefore, one should keep a check on when banks are closed for business. Bank holidays are set by Reserve Bank of India (RBI). RBI rules state that banks across the country will be closed on second and fourth Saturday of every month and will be open on the first and third Saturday.
In India banks are usually closed for business on the second and fourth Saturdays of every month. On the other hand, they are open for business on first and third Saturdays. Banks are also closed on all Sundays of all months. Since April 26 is the fourth Saturday of this month, all branches of all banks will be closed.
Therefore, no customer of any bank can enter a branch of any bank to get their work done. Incidentally, RBI categorises bank holidays into three kinds — under Negotiable Instruments Act, Real-Time Gross Settlement (RTGS) holidays and closing of accounts. Second and fourth Saturdays are holidays under the Negotiable Instruments Act.
