He has been awarded this degree by Sathyabama Institute of Science and Technology in Chennai, where he studied. This is the same place that gave wings to the director’s dreams. Atlee has been honored with the degree due to his valuable contributions to the film industry.

Renowned film director Atlee, who has given some of the best Tamil films and recently debuted with a Hindi film, has been awarded an honorary doctorate. This became one of the biggest milestones in the director’s journey.

Atlee honored with a Doctorate

The prestigious recognition was awarded to him at the 34th convocation ceremony of Sathyabama Institute of Science and Technology. The university’s Chancellor, Dr. Mariazeena Johnson, presented Atlee with the directorate certificate and commemorative plaque. During the ceremony, the director’s mother, father, and wife were also present.

He also remembered the former chancellor of the university, Jeppiaar, and said ”Many know Jeppiaar, sir, who supported my education. But he did much more — he encouraged my creativity. I once told him I wanted to make a short film. He simply said, ‘Pick up a camera and become a director soon.’ That moment changed my life.”

Atlee has received this recognition for some of his best films, such as Raja Rani, Their, Mersal, Bigil, and the pan-India phenomenon Jawan starring Shah Rukh Khan. During the emotional moment for him, he recalled his days at the university and said, “It’s surreal to be honoured by the same university where I once walked in as a student with big dreams. It was here that I learned the power of belief.”

He also thanked his family for the support and love, he said. “My parents stood by me till I became a filmmaker. But the one who shaped who I am is my wife, Priya Atlee. And the person who’s made me a better human is my son.”

Allu Arjun congratulated Atlee

On this special day of Atlee, Allu Arjun congratulated the director on his X (formerly Twitter) account, he wrote, “Big congratulations to @Atlee_dir garu on receiving the honorary doctorate. Happy to see your passion and craft being celebrated at this level. Wishing you many more heights ahead.”

Currently, Atlee’s next project is another pan-India venture #AA22xA6, produced by Kalanithi Maran’s Sun Pictures. The movie will star Allu Arjun and Deepika Padukone.
