New Delhi:Â
Arsenal and Inter Milan are the latest additions to the semifinal quartet of the UEFA Champions League, after registering commanding victories in the second leg quarter-final on Wednesday.Â
While Arsenal defeated Real Madrid 2-1 at the Santiago Bernabeu, Inter drew with Bayern Munich at San Siro but advanced with a high aggregate score. The quarter-final legs are concluded with Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) and FC Barcelona already into the semis.
Arsenal displayed composure and control, which led Gabriel Martinelli to seal victory for his side with a stoppage-time goal, making it 2-1 and a 5-1 aggregate triumph. The victory marks Arsenal’s first entry into a UCL semifinal since 2009, where they will face PSG.
Inter draws with Bayern.
Inter Milan took a sigh of relief playing at their turf, the San Siro, against Bayern Munich as the second leg quarterfinal clash turned out to be a 2-2 draw with the former advancing on a high aggregate score, i.e., 4-3.
Harry Kane broke the deadlock in the 52nd minute as he set a new record by scoring against 21 different opponents in the Champions League.
Inter too found the rhythm and responded with goals from Lautaro MartĂnez and Benjamin Pavard, who scored against his former club.
Despite a late equaliser from Eric Dier, Bayern couldn’t overturn the aggregate deficit. Inter’s strategic play and resilience under critical conditions were pivotal in their progression to the semis, where they will be up against Barcelona.
The first leg of the semifinals will be played on April 29 (Arsenal vs PSG) and April 30 (Inter Milan vs Barcelona), with the return legs on May 6 and 7. The monumental final will be played on May 31 at the Allianz Arena in Munich.
