New Delhi:

“Pakistan issues a notam closing its airspace for Indian registered aircraft, operated/owned or leased by Indian airlines/operators, including military aircraft,” a statement by Pakistan said. The step was taken after India announced a couple of steps against Pakistan, including suspension of the Indus water treaty, asking Pakistani citizens to leave India within 48 hours, and reducing staff strength in its embassy in Islamabad, among others.

As the tensions between India and Pakistan increased since the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack in which 26 people were killed, Islamabad announced its decision to close the airspace for Indian airlines. It has banned all Indian airlines which are Indian-registered, operated, own, or lease aircraft.

Indigo, Air India warns passengers

Sharing its information with passengers on X, Air India wrote, “Due to the announced restriction of Pakistan airspace for all Indian airlines, it is expected that some Air India flights to or from North America, UK, Europe, and the Middle East will take an alternative extended route.”

Following the development, IndiGo and Air India have warned passengers of service disruptions. Both airlines took to X, informing that schedules of some international flights might be impacted due to changing flight paths. “In view of the ongoing situation and Pakistan airspace closure, a few international flight schedules may be impacted. We’re working to minimize the inconvenience,” IndiGo wrote on X,

“Air India regrets the inconvenience caused to our passengers due to this unforeseen airspace closure that is outside our control. We would like to reiterate that at Air India, the safety of our customers and crew remains top priority.,” it added.
