After Bengaluru stampede, BCCI to discuss guidelines for IPL victory celebrations

The BCCI has decided to deliberate on IPL victory celebrations at its 28th apex council meeting on Saturday.

New Delhi:

The Bengaluru stampede during RCB’s IPL victory ceebrations has nudged the BCCI to discuss fomulation of guidelines for victory celebrations.

Delay in formation of Women’s ODI World Cup committee

Meanwhile, the Board will also have to decide on formation of a local organising committee to organise the Women’s ODI World Cup that will be held between September 30 and November 2.

At its previous apex council meeting in March no decision was taken with the ICC annoucning a partial match schedule. Pakistan’s matches will be held in Colombo as per the agreed hybrid model between the ICC, BCCI, and PCB.

“There is no deadline per se to form the LOC but it is always better if these things are done well in advance. In countries like England and Australia, you would normally see the LOC in place a year before the event and even the schedule is out well in advance so that the fans can plan.

“As far as the conduct of the tournament goes, the LOC is the main body responsible for sorting out the logistics for the participating teams. Needless to say, it has a massive role to play,” a BCCI source told PTI.

Eleven people died and 56 were injured last Wednesday when an estimated 2.5 lakh fans thronged the M Chinnaswamy stadium in Bengaluru to celebrate RCB’s maiden IPL triumph.

It led to nation wide uproar that forced the BCCI to acknowledged that the celebrations could have been handled in a better way.

The Board has also decided to deliberate on the matter and included it in its list of key items on the agenda of its 28th apex council meeting on Saturday.

“The need of formulation of norms for IPL victory celebration will be discussed during the meeting,” a BCCI source told PTI.

Venues for the New Zealand home series will also be finalised apart from review of the Board’s age verification programme amimed at curbing age-fudging in junior cricket.

Karimnagar District Cricket Association president V Agam Rao’s allegations of financial irregularities in Telengana will also be discussed.

The BCCI’s code of conduct for players and team Officials, tournament allowance policy for its employees, the 2025–26 domestic season and umpire and match referee coaches matters are also in the agenda.
