Aamir Khan Productions’ display picture changed to Indian flag

Aamir Khan Productions has replaced its social media display picture with the Indian national flag amid growing boycott calls. The move, seen across all major platforms, has sparked speculation among netizens about potential damage control ahead of Sitaare Zameen Par’s release

New Delhi:

The update was made amid a rising wave of online backlash against Aamir Khan, whose upcoming film Sitaare Zameen Par is set to release on June 20, 2025. The boycott calls have been fuelled by a resurfaced video clip of the actor from his visit to Turkey, coupled with his delayed public response regarding Operation Sindoor — a recent military operation that has struck a patriotic chord across the nation.

Speculation about the motive behind the display picture change has been rife, with users on platforms such as Reddit questioning whether the decision had been made as a form of “damage control.” One comment that gained traction read, “Lol he’s being boycotted online so clearly did it as damage control.” Another user echoed the sentiment, stating, “Bekar me damage control kar rahe hai, aisa karne se thore naa boycott karne waale inko chor denge.”

A strategic shift was observed on Friday across the official social media platforms of Aamir Khan Productions, where the company’s display picture was replaced with the Indian national flag. This change, implemented on Facebook, Instagram, and X (formerly Twitter), was noticed by netizens shortly after it went live.

Amid the social media discourse, a statement made by Aamir Khan during a recent public event has also resurfaced. When asked by ABP News to comment on the heightened tensions between India and Pakistan, the actor said, “We need justice and assurance that it [terrorist attacks] won’t happen again. We believe in our government, they’ll take action against the anti-social elements who committed this and bring them to justice.”

The timing of the production house’s visual change, alongside the nationalistic tone of Khan’s recent statement, has been widely interpreted as a move to align the brand more closely with patriotic sentiment, especially in the face of mounting scrutiny ahead of the film’s release.

Sitaare Zameen Par, which recently saw its trailer launched, has already drawn attention across the industry. Whether the change in public perception intended by Aamir Khan Productions will materialise remains to be seen as the promotional campaign for the film unfolds in the coming weeks.
