‘It was a crime’: Rahul Gandhi ups attack on Jaishankar

Accusing External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar of endangering national security, Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi on Monday escalated his criticism over Operation Sindoor. In a post on X, Gandhi termed Jaishankar’s silence “damning” and reiterated that alerting Pakistan at the outset of the operation was a “crime.”

New Delhi:

“EAM Jaishankar’s silence isn’t just telling — it’s damning. o I’ll ask again: How many Indian aircraft did we lose because Pakistan knew? his wasn’t a lapse. It was a crime. And the nation deserves the truth, ” he wrote.

Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Monday intensified his critique of External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar over Operation Sindoor. In a post on X, Gandhi accused Jaishankar’s silence on the matter of being “damning,” reiterating his earlier claim that informing Pakistan “at the start” of the operation was a “crime” that endangered Indian security.

He questioned how many Indian aircraft were lost due to Pakistan’s foreknowledge, demanding transparency and accountability from the government. In response to Gandhi’s claim, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) accused him of a “misrepresentation of facts.” The MEA clarified that the government had warned Pakistan in the “early phase after Operation Sindoor’s commencement” and not before the operation began. It stated that Jaishankar had said, “We had warned Pakistan at the start, which is clearly the early phase after Op Sindoor’s commencement.” The ministry added, “This is being falsely represented as being before the commencement. This utter misrepresentation of facts is being called out.”

On May 17, Gandhi shared an undated video of Jaishankar in which the minister is heard saying that India had warned Pakistan before launching strikes on terror infrastructure. In his post, Gandhi wrote, “Informing Pakistan at the start of our attack was a crime. EAM has publicly admitted that GOI did it.” He further questioned, “Who authorised it? How many aircraft did our air force lose as a result?”
