Aamir Khan and Genelia D’Souza-starrer Sitaare Zameen Par is all set to release in theatres this Friday (June 20). With expectations high, the makers opened the advance booking of the film on Wednesday (June 18), and the film did decent earnings in its pre-sales. The film is expected to beat Aamir Khan’s last release, Laal Singh Chaddha, on its opening day.

Sitaare Zameen Par has sold over 61,000 tickets so far, collecting Rs 1.67 crore without block seats and Rs 4.88 crore with block seats, according to industry tracker Sacnilk. It has sold over 51,000 tickets for its Hindi version, 1,700 tickets for its Tamil version, and 6,713 tickets for its Telugu version.

According to our sources, the film is expected to open around Rs 10 lakh. Producer and film business expert Girish Johar told us, “It’s an Aamir Khan film, and so coming after a while, it does raise a lot of expectations every time Aamir Khan is on screen. We all know that this film, Sitare Zameen Par, is not an all-out commercial entertainer, and this is more of a meaningful, nuanced kind of film, targeting a particular set of audiences.

 It’s a remake also of Champion, which was made earlier in Hollywood. So, I’m expecting a good start. I’m expecting somewhere around a double-digit number to start the day.”
