Riot Games announces League of Legends tournament with ₹10 lakh prize and LCP spot

Riot Games and Aftermath Ventures have announced Legends Ascend South Asia, a four-month online League of Legends tournament starting April 27. Open to teams across South Asia, the event offers a ₹10 lakh prize pool and a chance to enter the LCP Wildcard Playoffs.

The tournament will run until August 3 and ends with the winner earning a coveted spot in the League of Legends Championship Pacific (LCP) Wildcard Playoffs—a direct entry into the global stage’s qualifying round. And yes, there’s money on the line too: ₹10 lakh in total prize money.

A new League of Legends tournament is coming to South Asia, and it’s aiming straight at the heart of the region’s amateur scene. Riot Games, in partnership with Aftermath Ventures, has announced Legends Ascend South Asia, an online-only, open-for-all tournament that starts April 27, 2025. It’s the latest step in Riot’s push to give South Asia’s players a legit shot at international competition.

Structured tournament, international stakes

Here’s how it works: Legends Ascend will host three open qualifiers, followed by a round-robin league and then double-elimination playoffs. Teams from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, and the Maldives are all eligible to sign up.

The first qualifier kicks off on May 4 after registration closes on May 3. The second and third qualifiers follow in back-to-back weeks through June 8. The main league will run from June 13 to July 20, and playoffs will take place from July 25 to August 3.

Matches will be broadcast live on Aftermath Ventures’ FragNation YouTube channel starting May 4 at 7:30 PM IST.

Riot says it’s all about “a real shot”

The focus here is not just on discovering talent, but also creating a pipeline that mirrors global standards. Riot seems to be taking South Asia’s competitive future seriously—and so is Aftermath.

“Legends Ascend is about giving players in South Asia a real shot at competitive League of Legends,” said Arun Rajappa, Riot Games’ Country Manager for India and South Asia. “It’s a step towards building a stronger, more connected community where players and fans can all find more ways to play, engage, grow, and be part of something bigger.”

Building from the grassroots

“Legends Ascend South Asia is more than just a tournament—it’s a platform built to empower a new generation of League players in the region,” said Mansoor ‘Nabu’ Ahmed, CEO of Aftermath Ventures. “From playing the game ourselves to now hosting it for the community, this moment is incredibly special.”

Aftermath and Riot are calling this a turning point for the local scene. And with a direct shot at the LCP Wildcard up for grabs, there’s real incentive for teams to show up, grind it out, and get noticed.
