U.S. Vice President JD Vance, accompanied by Second Lady Usha Vance and their three children, kicked off their four-day official visit to India on April 21, 2025, with a high-level meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi. The Vance family was welcomed by the Prime Minister at his residence at Lok Kalyan Marg, marking the Vice President’s first trip to India since taking office earlier in the year.

At the top of the agenda are long-stalled negotiations for a comprehensive bilateral trade deal with another key topic being the review of reciprocal tariffs on Indian goods introduced under the recently re-elected US President Donald Trump. While the measures are currently paused until July, these tariffs have been a persistent obstacle in trade talks and are central to current negotiations.

The US Vice President’s visit comes at a pivotal moment in U.S.-India relations, as both nations seek to deepen cooperation in technology, defense, and economic sectors.
