Lionel Messi scored his 859th professional goal of his decorated career to help Inter Miami register a 4-1 win over New York Red Bulls in Major League Soccer.

Messi netted in the 67th minute on Saturday after combining with team-mate Telasco Segovia to exchange four passes.

The talismanic player then used his his right hip to take New York defender Noah Eile in his stride before blasting the ball home with his left-foot from the centre of the area. 

Earlier, Fafa Picault has put Miami ahead in the ninth minute with a half volley. Marcelo Weigandt them made in 2-0 and Suarez then scored his first goal since March 2 to put Miami three goals ahead in the 39th minute.

After their win over the Red Bulls, Miami have won six matches, drawn thrice and lost once to be fourth in the table with 21 points, three behind Columbus Crew.

Not only did the Argentine superstar score, he also helped set up a goal as Uruguayan star Luis Suarez was also on target for Miami. They helped Miami rebound from a 4-3 loss to Dallas that had ended their eight-game unbeaten streak at the beginning of the season.

Mohammed Sofo converted from a corner kick, heading in at the far post in thr 43rd minute to give New York hope. But after the change of ends, Messi buried the contest with his preferred left foot.
