Kerala monsoon: Kasaragod, Kannur districts to continue receive heavy downpour

Heavy rainfall has led to major damages across the retaining walls adjacent to the national highway across the state, especially in the northern districts of Kasaragod and Kannur. In many places cracks was visible in the under-construction roads.

Kasaragod: 

The hilly areas of Kozhikode and Kannur continued to experience losses due to heavy rainfall on June 18 with water gushing into houses and agricultural lands in many areas such Mukkom, Thottumukkam, Kakkadampoyil, Chathamangalam and many other areas. The hilly and coastal areas of Kannur and Kasaragod also experienced water logging and damage to crops and residential areas where water entered into houses and thereby leading to major inconvinience to the people living in those areas.

The Indian Meteorological department has issued Orange alert for the two northern districts of the state – Kasaragod and Kannur where heavy, isolated rainfall is set to continue for the next three days accompanied by high tides ranging from 4 to 4.5 meters. Seven other districts including Kozhikode, Wayanad, Palakkad, Thrissur, Ernakulam, Kollam and Pathanamthitta have been issued yellow alert by the official weather department.

Squally weather with wind speed up to 40 kmph is expected across the coastal areas of the state in the next 48 hours. Fisherman are been advised not to venture into the sea in the coming days as the sea is expected to be rough.

The IMD has issued an ‘orange’ alert for Karnataka, indicating heavy to very heavy rainfall, along with thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds, with speed reaching 40-50 kmph, across the state. Other parts of South India such as TN, Puducherry, Karaikal, Kerala, Mahe, Lakshadweep, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, Rayalaseema, and Telangana will also receive light to moderate rainfall today.
