HYDRAA launches major project to restore Bum-Rukn-ud-Dowla Lake in Old City
Hyderabad’s HYDRAA is restoring Bum-Rukn-ud-Dowla Lake, reclaiming 9 acres of encroached land to restore its original 18-acre size. The project includes beautification with play areas and paths.
Hyderabad:
HYDRAA’s head, AV Ranganath, recently visited the lake. He said it’s important to fix the lake’s natural outlet so water can flow properly again. The agency is also working on the stormwater system around the lake. This will help stop flooding and keep the water clean in the future.
Hyderabad’s Disaster Response and Assets Protection Agency, called HYDRAA, has started a project to bring a lake in the Old City back to its original size. The lake, named Bum-Rukn-ud-Dowla Lake, used to cover 18 acres. Over the years, some of this land was lost because people dumped soil there illegally. HYDRAA has found nearly 9 acres of this rubbish and plans to clear it away.
Heated debate between councillors in GHMC meeting today
Meanwhile, in an unrelated incident, at the GHMC Ordinary Council meeting on Wednesday, chaired by Hyderabad Mayor Gadwala Vijayalakshmi, councillors gathered to talk in detail about the city’s plans for the monsoon season and other important services.
The meeting got quite tense when members of the BRS and BJP got into a heated argument. It started when Samala Hema, the BRS councillor for Sitaphalmandi, blamed the Central government for failing to stop the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam. BJP councillors were quick to take offence and demanded she apologise straight away, refusing to accept the blame.
The BRS group also brought up a sensitive issue involving Baba Fasiuddin, a Congress member from Borabanda. They loudly called for his arrest, accusing him of being involved in a suicide case. They held up signs and chanted slogans to make their demand clear.
HYDRAA’s lake beautification plan
HYDRAA isn’t just restoring the lake, but also planning to beautify it for people. They plan to add a children’s play area, a walking path around the lake, and maybe a public park nearby. On the same day, the commissioner also visited another water site called Bathukamma Kunta in Amberpet to check on the ongoing development works there.
