Canada secure spot in 2026 T20 World Cup after dominating Americas qualifiers

Canada qualify for the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup after a dominant win over Bahamas, finishing unbeaten in the Americas Qualifier campaign.

New Delhi:

Canada have officially booked their ticket to the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup which will be co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka, following a flawless run in the Americas Qualifier. The hosts sealed qualification with a commanding win over the Bahamas, making it five victories in as many games in the tournament.

Joining Cricket’s Elite for 2026:

Canada now joins an impressive list of teams that have already qualified for the 20-team event. These include hosts India and Sri Lanka along with top sides Australia, England, Pakistan, South Africa, New Zealand, Bangladesh, West Indies, Afghanistan, Ireland, and the United States.

Seven more teams will also join the list through the upcoming Europe, Africa, and Asia-EAP Regional Qualifiers in late 2025. With their qualification now confirmed, Canada can set their sights on preparing for the big stage as they look to make a stronger impact at the global tournament next year.

Canada’s bowlers made light work of the Bahamas batting lineup. Kaleem Sana and Shivam Sharma starred with the ball and took three wickets each to skittle out the opposition for a mere 57 runs. The chase was a mere formality as Dilpreet Bajwa blazed his way to an unbeaten 36 off just 14 balls, wrapping up the match in only 5.3 overs.

Dominance from the start:

Led by Nicholas Kirton, Canada entered the tournament as one of the favourites, having featured in the previous edition of the T20 World Cup in the USA and the Caribbean. They started their campaign with a thumping 110-run victory over Bermuda and continued their fine form with wins over the Cayman Islands and Bahamas in the group stages.

Their game against Cayman Islands even got shortened due to weather but they didn’t derail their momentum. Canada put up 82 runs and comfortably defended the total, winning by 42 runs.
